Therapy for Life Transitions & Identity
Change has the capacity to evoke a variety of feelings and experiences, unique to each human. Even when a change is celebrated it requires us to shed a piece of our past, which may result in a stage of mourning.
Regardless of what you are leaving behind, you are now confronted with the task of redefining your identity. Though you may feel lost or overwhelmed by it all, know that you don’t have to do it alone. We understand the impacts of change and the importance of figuring out who you are. We want you to feel connected and to find a greater sense of self and identity.
Changing Tides

Your identity comprises your sense of self, beliefs, values, and morals. It helps you make sense of the world, find a purpose, and make crucial decisions. Though it is normal for your identity to evolve as you mature and face new challenges, significant changes can evoke identity crises which can cause dysregulation, fear, and uncertainty. Well-known identity crises include Quarterlife, Midlife, and Existential. However, it is possible to experience them at any point in life.
At Intuitive Counseling, we will help you process questions that come with identity crises and internal conflicts so that you can regain your sense of self and purpose and make choices on how to move forward.

When the last child moves out of the family home to start their own life, parents experience empty nesting. In severe cases, some may experience Empty Nest Syndrome, a combination of a distressing identity crisis, loss, and significant emotional reactions. We understand that as an empty nester, you can feel various emotions, from grief and loss to freedom and excitement. We know that some days are easier than others. Whether you are a single parent or a couple, our practice will help you process the changing family dynamics, learn ways to cope with difficult emotions and redefine your roles and relationships.

Retirement is a major life achievement that represents hard work and dedication. It can result in a wide range of emotions, from excitement and freedom to fears about your financial future or what you will do with your free time. For people whose identity is closely connected to their occupation or career, it can alter their sense of self and purpose. Our goal is to help you successfully adjust to this phase of life by processing a sense of loss, reestablishing your identity, finding new purposes, and ensuring you live a life congruent with your values and goals.
